Moses Gateja is an enterprise & value chain development expert, with more than 10 years’ experience in empowering and transforming the lives of smallholder farmers by catalyzing establishment and growth of competitive and sustainable Dairy Producer organizations’ with a focus to achieve inclusive growth in poor rural areas of Uganda. He played a key role in the development of the milk consumption strategy with the various players in the dairy value chain being a focal person between the dairy development authority and the processors. He has in-depth experience in managing market driven interventions aimed at making the markets work for the poor and he is a leading trainer/facilitator in market development approaches. He is well equipped with technical and strategic skills enabling him to manage change and different cultures effectively. He is passionate about impact, is results driven, value based, innovative, and thrives in a team environment. He worked with Technoserve Inc.in various capacities of a business advisor, senior and a team leader on the East Africa dairy development project responsible for coordinating implementation of a market-driven dairy program in Uganda.

And under this he was able to secure market for the producer organizations’ through contractual purchase by the processors, that led to business development services as other sources of revenue for the dairy entities and enhancing the supplier loyalty to the dairy entity, Moses was able to break the challenge of access to finance through a strategic partnership with microfinance support centre and Uganda development bank were a tune of $750,000 line of credit was offered to 5 dairy producer organizations’ in central and south western Uganda, for business efficiency operations and the investment into the production and productivity by Small holder farmers, a model that resulted in increase of milk supply and the new shareholders.
Moses is dexterous at managing and coordinating all aspects of donor funded programs including; monitoring and evaluation, budget monitoring, ongoing assessments/studies and implementation through application of current best practice in program life cycle. He has gained broad experience with major donor organizations for example; European Union (EU), USAID and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Currently He is a strategic consultant on the innovation outcome measurement (IOM) regional project at technoserve Inc. being in charge of the Uganda cluster deliverables with responsibility of identifying of potential innovations for IOM pilot studies, Facilitate the selected market actors to develop and pilot a variety of innovations for adoption and sustainability under the market systems approach.
Prior to joining Technoserve Inc. Moses worked with Entutsi Rural Enterprises’ limited for a period of 3 years a firm that the purchase, transportation and sale of mil from individual and farmer owned business entities in the cattle corridor as an operations manager, and one of the grand achievement was the managing of the processor owned collection centres and the introduction of the business development services to the farmers.
Moses received B.Sc (Hons) degree in Project management from Ndejje University and Dip in Institutional management Education from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Masters of Business Administration-fellow-Ndejje University.
